It took 3rd place for 'Best Restaurant' at the Romanian Hospitality Awards 2026, where its chef and co-owner Oana Coantă came 2nd for 'Best Communication in Hospitality' and 3rd for 'Best Chef', and it has 4.6 on Google from more than 5,000 reviews.
About the place
The bistro opened on 6 December 2000 in an old building in the historic centre and began as a meeting place for artists and travellers, with art exhibitions and live music. Its chef and co-owner, Oana Coantă, was named 'Woman Chef of the Year' by the Gault&Millau guide in 2019. The restaurant is in the Gault&Millau selection and in The World's 50 Best Discovery.
The cooking is slow food, with local, seasonal produce, and builds on Romanian and Transylvanian recipes cooked for today's tastes; the menu changes often and there is also a daily menu. On Google, reviews mention above all the onion soup, the Romanian cooking, the beef pasta and the piano music, as well as the outdoor tables in a quiet alley. The room is small and hard to get into without a booking, and a few guests found the service rather slow.
Good to know
- Book online or by phone, especially for evenings and weekends; the booking is only valid once you receive the confirmation email.
- If you are late, a booked table is held for 15 minutes at most, and a booking lasts 1 hour 50 minutes.
- The onion soup and the beef pasta are the dishes reviews mention most; in good weather ask for a table outside in the alley.
