About the place
Between the wars, the house at Strada Republicii 19 was the confectionery of the Saxon pastry cook Frideric Embacher, known for chocolate and diplomat cake. Local lore says the young King Michael drove over from Sinaia for cakes. The confectioner's son-in-law, Captain Sabin Mare, helped the anti-communist partisans in the Făgăraș Mountains and was arrested in 1949. In 2021 a local family bought and renovated the house: the old floors were kept and the old beams became tables and chandeliers.
The menu covers breakfast, trout zacuscă with homemade bread, tripe soup, veal soup, dishes with pork, poultry, beef, lamb and fish, and pizza and pasta from the wood-fired oven. There is a brick wine cellar in the basement. It holds 4.7 on Google from 1,494 reviews.
