Constantin Brâncoveanu helped pay for it, together with Prince Michael Apafi II and Reformed nobles of Transylvania.
About the place
The Reformed of Făgăraș lost two churches: the first was destroyed by the Tatars in 1658, the second by cannon fire in the siege of 1704. The new church was begun in 1712 and finished in 1715, with money from Prince Michael Apafi II, Reformed noble families and Constantin Brâncoveanu, prince of Wallachia. The tower was completed in 1724, according to the parish records.
After a fire in 1750 the church was restored in 1757–1758 with the support of Countess Kata Bethlen, who lived in Făgăraș. In 1768 the tower was raised by one storey and given a clock, and the organ dates from around 1886. The church is a category A historic monument, like the fortress and Saint Nicholas Church.
