It is the Franciscans' Baroque ensemble in Făgăraș, a listed monument with an 1895 Angster organ and sundials in the friary courtyard.
About the place
The Franciscans settled in Făgăraș in the 1730s. They received the land in 1736, and between 1737 and 1742 they built a first church and a friary, which also ran a school from 1747. The fire of 31 May 1760 burned almost the whole town, including the church roof; the ensemble was rebuilt, and the church was consecrated in 1782 and dedicated to the Holy Trinity.
The friary has a ground floor, an upper floor and a cloister, and two sundials in the inner courtyard show the hours from 8 to 15. The church has an organ built in 1895 in Pécs, in the workshop of József Angster, with two manuals and 16 stops; the interior was repainted in 2019. From 1865 the Făgăraș friary was the centre of the Franciscan province of Transylvania.
