It is open daily all year, with guided visits every half hour, and the Brașov Philharmonic gives concerts in its Great Hall.
About the place
The cave entrance was long blocked by boulders and alluvium and only appeared in 1949; at first cavers had to crawl in. In 2010 the cave was fitted out with fibreglass walkways and LED lighting chosen so as not to disturb the bat colonies, and it was declared a natural monument. The Great Hall, also called the Cathedral, has white limestone formations, stalactites and small pools.
Visits are guided only, with tours every 30 minutes and no booking. From October to March the cave is open daily 10:00–18:00, last entry 17:30; from April to September 10:00–20:00. Inside it is 9–12 °C, and from the car park to the entrance you walk about 450 m. For organised groups the Brașov Philharmonic can play concerts in the Great Hall, without amplification.
