Its limestone walls are used for climbing, and marked paths of 1–3 hours lead from the gorge to Poiana Secuilor and Poiana Brașov.
About the place
The gorge is cut by the Râșnoava stream into the southern slope of Postăvarul. You reach it from the Râșnov–Predeal road (DN73A) on a paved side road of about 3 km. In the Colții Cheii area the town has laid out about 35 hectares for camping and barbecues, and the shaded limestone walls carry climbing routes.
Marked paths start in the gorge: to Poiana Secuilor (yellow triangle, about an hour), from where you can continue to the Trei Brazi hut, to Poiana Brașov (blue stripe, about 7.6 km, 2.5–3 hours) and to Postăvarul peak. Access to the Valea Lungă tourist area is charged per person and per car. In winter the road and paths can be covered in snow and ice, and bears live in the area.
Good to know
- In winter wear shoes with good grip: the paths can be icy.
- Do not leave food in sight and do not set off alone on the trails towards evening: bears live on Postăvarul.
- For climbing bring your own gear; the shaded walls can be climbed in spring and late autumn too.
