It is the nearest walk in nature: from the top you see Brașov and Postăvarul, and on the slopes grow steppe plants that arrived after the last ice age.
About the place
The Dealul Cetății – Lempeș reserve covers 274.5 hectares and has been protected since 2000; together with the Hărman marsh it forms a Natura 2000 site. The summit, called Dealul Cetății, is 704 m high, and on it you can see the earthworks of a medieval fortification. The slopes have oak and sessile oak woods, stands of black pine and dry grassland where pheasant's eye (Adonis vernalis) flowers in spring. Most paths start from Sânpetru, and the hill also has a paragliding take-off.
The Hărman marsh covers only 2 hectares and lies where Hărman ends on the road to Bod, beside county road DJ112A. Its streams keep alive more than 150 species left over from the ice age, among them Armeria barcensis, a plant that grows only in the Burzenland, English sundew (Drosera anglica) and bird's-eye primrose (Primula farinosa). The marsh has no laid-out paths: you look at it from the edge without walking into it.
Good to know
- From November to March the paths are often muddy or snowy: wear boots.
- Pheasant's eye flowers in late March and April; do not pick anything, it is a reserve.
- There are no springs or huts on the hill: take water with you.
