According to Romsilva it is one of the world's most important Lipizzaner studs, with seven bloodlines, and it is open to visitors every day.
About the place
The stud was founded in 1874 with horses brought from Lipica in Slovenia. In 1913, before the war, the whole stud of 322 horses was moved to Bábolna in Hungary, and the Romanian state re-established it in 1920 with three stallions and 22 mares. Romsilva has run it since 2002. Seven bloodlines are bred here: Conversano, Favory, Maestoso, Neapolitano, Pluto, Siglavy-Capriola and Tulipan.
The grounds include the Brukenthal manor, built between 1750 and 1760 for the Brukenthal family, a listed monument in poor condition that you see from outside. The stud also stages riding and carriage shows, such as those on 2 May and 1 June 2026; the rest of the year you visit the horses with an entry ticket.
