It is a category A historic monument and keeps the cellars and the ruined stone gate of the palace built by Constantin Brâncoveanu.
About the place
Around 1708 Constantin Brâncoveanu built a palace here, modelled on those at Potlogi and Mogoșoaia. At the end of the 18th century the Habsburg authorities had it pulled down, leaving only the cellars; in the 19th century Grigore Brâncoveanu built today's manor on top of them. After the 1922 land reform the building served as a writers' retreat, a school and a fruit store.
The exterior was renovated around 2010 by a company that planned a hotel here, but the building stayed closed to the public and in 2026 it has no visiting hours. From the road you see the manor, its outbuildings and, further west, the ruined stone gate of the old palace.
Good to know
- The interior cannot be visited: look at the building and the old gate from outside and do not enter the grounds if they are closed.
- Stop here on your way to the monastery: the road to the resort leaves from the village.
- A bust of Constantin Brâncoveanu stands in the park in the eastern part of the village.
