It is the only place in Bran where old peasant houses with tall shingle roofs stand together, right below the castle; you can walk its paths freely.
About the place
The museum was set up in 1962 in the park next to the castle. It has 18 farmsteads and houses, outbuildings, farm buildings and water-powered installations: a sawmill, a wool carder and a yarn winder. The 18 folk-architecture monuments are listed in category A.
The land was returned to the heirs of its former owners, and the museum has been fighting eviction cases for years. In the Court of Auditors' report published in 2025, the section is listed as closed to the public. In 2026 the buildings remain closed, but the grounds are open: visitors walk freely along the paths between the houses, without a ticket.
Good to know
- The houses cannot be visited inside; you see them only from outside.
- The way in is next to the souvenir stalls at the foot of the castle.
- The walk is short, so you can combine it with your castle visit.
