It is one of the most walked trails from Zărnești: you climb through the forest to a hut open all year, below Piatra Mică and Turnu peak.
About the place
Fântâna lui Botorog is a drinking-water spring with a car park and a board with the park map and rules, close to the entrance to the gorge. From Zărnești, the trail marked with a yellow stripe passes the spring and the Zănoaga meadow and reaches the Curmătura hut in about 2.5 to 3 hours; it is rated medium.
The Curmătura hut stands at 1,470 m on the north-eastern slope, below the saddle between Piatra Mică and Turnu peak (1,923 m), and sleeps about 46. From here trails lead to Piatra Mică and up to the ridge, for example to the Ascuțit refuge. In public data updated in September 2026 the hut is open daily, all year.
